How to fix your own computer
Cure for most computer problems Is your computer getting sluggish? The cause of most computer problems are tracking cookies, illegal registry entries and junk entries left after from installs and uninstalls, adware, malware, and any number of viruses. I cleaned 20 viruses off of one persons computer alone. What to do when you have problems? It takes a little time and effort but is easily remedied in most cases. In the worst case you would need to wipe it clean with Fdisk and reinstall Windows from the install disk. In XP, System restore comes in handy to take your computer back to a working state. First, I would run a scan with “Adaware”free or Ad-Aware 2008 Pro provides advanced features for IT professionals and savvy computer users for optimal control of scans, malware removal, and damage repair.
and I am sure you will be surprised with the number of tracking cookies and registry junk you will remove. After that run “Advanced Windows Care” free version or Want a Faster and Error-Free PC? Click Here
That closes up your security defenses and cleans more off and is a quick scan. Then run a deep scan for viruses with your anti-virus. Be sure to keep it updated. Only have one antivirus program and one firewall. (Windows firewall does a pretty good job) I recommend one of the free anti-virus programs. AVG, Avast, Avira or some other. Or get the paid version even better, Great Antivirus Protection with Volume Discounts when purchasing two or more licenses!Buy it here! Click Here You can run all these programs a second time just to be sure. Run “rootkit revealer” You need a program to repair the registry after removing viruses. My personal favorite: Save $10 on Fix-It Utilities Professional 8
When you are sure you are clean, add “Start up Manager” another free program. Remove anything not necessary from the startup. Just click on the item and click delete. Like Quicktime. You can access the program anytime you wish but you do not need it at startup. You can use tree size free (scroll down for this program) for finding where your disk space is used up. Then defragment your hard drive. Go to Start>All programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk defragmenter. It opens and you click Defragment. Let it run completely before shutting computer off. Also, in one case, I took a persons computer back to factory settings and rebuilt all the programs. I was still having problems, so I ran a virus scan and had more viruses. They were replicating themselves from the hidden partition! In that case you should also run “eraser” like I did to clean the unused disk space. It overwrites the space with Zero’s. It passes your good programs , operating system, etc. , but cleans in between them and then all the unused disk space. That way, I completely got rid of them. I had to go back and uninstall and reinstall some programs to get them running correctly. In the same case again, I would take it to factory settings, install and run an antivirus and run eraser and then build up from there. You then should be in good shape.
